6 Epic Ski Holidays That Are Worth the Splurge

Tacos & Tequila

And just like that, the 2021 holiday season has arrived. Whether you’ve been dealing with the craze of returning to work or getting the kiddos back into fall sports, there’s a good chance you’ve left your planning to the last second (we’re speaking from experience, here). But guess what? There’s still time to book an epic ski vacation that’s absolutely worth the last-minute splurge. To ease the stress of it all, SBP compiled a list of six resorts you’ll want to spend top dollar on this season — with the best après spots, restaurants and hotels, no less.

Aspen, Colorado

Ahhh, a little place called Aspen (Dumb and Dumber, anyone?). There’s a reason this Colorado ski resort is beloved by nearly every celebrity in Hollywood: it combines killer skiing with a bougie après scene that’s worth writing home about. Plus, going to Aspen means you can splurge on a stay at The Little Nell, a boutique five-star, ski-in/ski-out hotel that’ll leave you daydreaming well past your vacation.

Big Sky, Montana

Montana’s unofficial nickname is the “last best place,” and if you’re shaking your head right now, just head to Big Sky Resort and you’ll see why. Unlike most ski resorts, Big Sky has evaded major commercialization and kept its classic, cozy charm over the years, resulting in a true diamond of a destination that delivers on both luxury (hello Montage!) and rustic allure (like every good ski town must have).

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

If you’re ski-obsessed, Jackson Hole should be high atop your bucket list. Home to everything from crazy chutes to silky-smooth groomers, Jackson Hole is (for lack of a better word) a jack of all trades. In the Tetons, go on a spending spree at Caldera House or Amangani, and later journey into Downtown Jackson for high-end shopping, five-star dining and, of course, a delicious dive-bar beer.

Park City, Utah

Listen, if you live in SoCal and haven’t been to Park City yet, you’re doing it wrong. Just a short flight from LA, Park City and the adjoining Canyons Resort comprise the largest ski mountain in America — which, of course, means legendary, endless skiing. Plus, Main Street is a destination in and of itself, featuring everything from upscale boutiques to vibrant nightlife, while The Pendry offers the ultimate luxury basecamp in Canyons Village.

Tahoe, California

When it comes to skiing in Tahoe, we’re all about Squaw Valley. Known for its world-class slopes and European-inspired aesthetic, the resort has such a distinct, vibrant energy that’ll leave you wondering why you didn’t book a trip years ago. We recommend balling out at The Ritz-Carlton and taking advantage of all that Tahoe has to offer beyond its stunning snow-capped peaks and alpine meadows, like incredible eats and a lively bar scene.

Vail, Colorado

This list could never be complete without Vail. The cherished ski mountain sets a new standard for luxury in Colorado with a bevy of high-end hotels, restaurants and shops in its darling slope-side town. Not only that, the skiing is spectacular; in fact, it’s been dubbed “like nothing on earth.” Book a room at the Four Seasons, hit the mountain’s meticulously groomed trails, indulge in world-class cuisine — here, the opportunities to savor the good life are endless.
