Tacos & Tequila

01/24/25

Life in the LA we know and love changed dramatically this month, and with it has come some significant uncertainty. Smith and Berg Property Group continues to provide our community with important real estate recovery and planning resources, whether you're supporting others through challenging times or navigating these difficulties for yourself.

Moments of self-care can help restore much needed strength, resilience, and calm. Thankfully, LA is home to wellness spaces offering free or discounted services to support the community, helping you recharge and recover. From DIY self-care tips to wellness centers, here’s where to find moments of renewal when they’re needed most.

Spas & Wellness Centers

Pause Studio

BetterHelp, a leading online mental health platform, is offering three months of free therapy to wildfire victims and first responders. If you’re in need of support, you can connect with a licensed therapist by reaching out via email at [email protected].

DIY Self Care

Deep Breathing Exercises
Pause for a few minutes to practice deep belly breathing. Inhale for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for four. This technique helps reduce stress and restore focus.

Hydration and Nutrition
Dehydration and poor nutrition can worsen stress. Keep water nearby, and aim for meals that include fresh produce, whole grains, and lean proteins. If accessing groceries is difficult, local farmers’ markets and relief organizations may have fresh options at reduced prices.

Stretching or Light Movement
Gentle stretches or yoga poses like child’s pose and downward dog can help relieve tension in your body. There are free apps like Yoga for Beginners or YouTube videos that guide you through simple routines.

Aromatherapy on a Budget
Essential oils, such as lavender or eucalyptus, can provide soothing aromatherapy. If oils aren’t available, simply boil citrus peels or herbs like mint to create a calming scent in your space.

Journaling
Taking a few moments to write down your thoughts or what you’re grateful for can bring clarity and help shift your mindset.

Mindfulness Apps
Apps like Headspace and Unplug Meditation are offering free guided meditations and sleep support to specifically help Los Angeles residents cope with the stress and anxiety caused by the wildfires.
