The Most Random Things You Can Do in LA This Weekend

Tacos & Tequila

05/21/19

We’re big believers in stepping outside of the box on the SBP team. What’s more boring than doing the same weekend activities over and over again? Yawnnn. Lucky for us, Los Angeles is bursting at the seams with off-beat and, more often than not, weird things to do. And lucky for you, we’ve compiled a list of random activities and attractions for you to experience this Memorial Day weekend. Break out of your monotonous routine and witness the city in an entirely new light.

Explore the Museum of Jurassic Technology

Looking for a bizarre museum experience this weekend? We weren’t either, but the Museum of Jurassic Technology has us rethinking our Memorial Day plans. Located in Palms, the strange exhibition contains a highly unusual collection of objects—from scientific artifacts to historic items—with varying and uncertain degrees of authenticity. Simply put, it’s hard to tell what’s real and what isn’t. You’ll leave with so many questions and, well, that’s just the type of weird we need in our lives.

Step back in time at La Descarga

Sometimes we need to go a little bit Gatsby in life, which is exactly where La Descarga comes in. Located in East Hollywood, the Cuban-themed bar has phenomenal cocktails and a whimsical, retro vibe that’ll make you feel like you just stepped into a prohibition era speakeasy. Past the unassuming facade, step into a dark foyer where you’ll meet the hostess, guiding you through a dusty armoire into 1940s Havana. Wear your best upscale attire, sip on Cuban rum and sway to live music as dancers enliven the hauntingly stunning ambiance.

Horseback ride to the Hollywood sign

We’ve all hiked to the Hollywood sign. That’s old news. So, for a literal change of pace, hop on a horse and experience the stunning hills of Griffith Park in a whole new way. Through Sunset Ranch, you can book a one- or two-hour horseback riding tour that leads you to the Los Angeles landmark with far-reaching vistas of the Griffith Observatory and DTLA, to boot. Is there a better way to get back on the epic weekend activity saddle? We think not.

Escape from “Lab Rat”

Put your mind to the test and make the ultimate break for it this weekend. Escape rooms have become all the rage in Los Angeles, and Hatch Escapes’ Lab Rat exhibition is undoubtedly the best in the biz (seriously, it was just voted the 8th best in the world). Here, you’ll assume the role as a rat, locked in a cage while an evil doctor experiments on you. If you’re able to complete a series of test and puzzles, you’ll then be thrown into a maze that takes incredible teamwork to solve. Sounds eerie, right? Just what you need to revive your weekend routine.

Fuel up on beer & grub at the Angel City Heritage Music & Arts Festival

Make your way to DTLA for the Angel City Heritage Music & Arts Festival this Memorial Day weekend to celebrate all of your favorite things about Los Angeles: food, beer, art and music. The event features brewmaster-led tours for an educational peek at how Angel City crafts all their house beers, local food trucks with killer tacos and pizza, live painting exhibitions and sweet live tunes from 12pm to 6pm. So, if you’re seeking to shake up your mundane weekend groove with some good vibes, the Heritage Fest is screaming your name.
