Make a grand escape
One of the greatest perks of being in real estate is experiencing what’s out there. We’d like to say it’s to gain killer inspo but there’s definitely a selfish ulterior motive at play. Whether our team members are looking for a quick weekend getaway or summer vacay, we’ve curated a collective list of top trip picks to unwind, drink in epic views from California to Maryland and return with some sweet stories to share. Behold, the Smith & Berg Partners Getaway Guide.
Terranea Resort
Rancho Palos Verdes, California
The best getaways are those that make you feel a million miles away while, really, just 10 miles from home. In Los Angeles, you needn’t look much further than the Palos Verdes peninsula to feel entirely transported to the Amalfi Coast.
The luxury seaside oasis that is Terranea Resort is the ideal spot for a romantic retreat or family vacay, complete with well-appointed suites and an array of five-star amenities — from the award-winning nine-hole course to serene oceanfront spa. Come sundown, head to Mar’Sel (one of Terranea’s eight restaurants) and indulge in their delish seasonal menu with a killer bottle of wine. Now this is L.A. livin’.
Parker Palm Springs
Palm Springs, California
For a quick little desert trip, look no further than Parker Palm Springs. Designed by Jonathan Adler, this super hip boutique hotel is the ultimate spot to revel in eclectically modern decor, top-tier amenities — like pétanque or crochet for a bougie twist — delicious eats and all around good vibes.
We recommend relaxing by the pool all day with a glass of ice-cold rosé or citron presse (a classy lemonade), lunching at Norma’s then dressing up in your desert best for dinner at the uber-swanky Mister Parker’s.
Meadowood
Napa Valley, California
For a taste of the east coast in the heart of wine country, Meadowood is the absolute cream of the crop. Jet up to Napa for a weekend getaway and treat yourself to a wholly luxurious escape — in between wine tastings, of course.
Nestled in its own Napa arboretum of sorts, Meadowood is home to five-star suites, a deluxe spa that serves up a wellness experience like no other and, last but definitely not least, a restaurant with three whopping Michelin stars. Then, come Sunday, indulge in a classy mimosa brunch followed by a ritzy round of croquet. Over the top? Sure. But this is wine country what else would you expect?
The Inn at Perry Cabin
St. Michaels, Maryland
For a longer summer vacay, F. Ron likes to switch it up with a little east coast action. The Inn at Perry Cabin, a charming manor house resort and spa on the Eastern shore of Maryland, definitely tops his list of favorite rural, luxury retreats.
The definition of 19th century elegance, the rooms are light, airy and full of old-world charm all with unmatched vistas of the surrounding lush landscape and Miles River. After a long afternoon bike ride, you can find F. Ron hitting up the spa and, later, having drinks and dinner with family at the waterside restaurant. Then definitely another cocktail beside the open-heart fire at Purser’s Pub.
St. Regis Princeville Resort
Kauai, Hawaii
While F. Ron prefers to don his nautical blues and khaki pants, Berg throws on a rad Hawaiian tee. The St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai is undoubtedly one of his favorite summer destinations, complete with an unparalleled level of sophistication and serene luxury on a 9,000-acre plot of land.
Ideal for both adults and kiddos, the Princeville Resort is one of those hard-to-find locales where you don’t have to lift a finger — incredible adventure, first-class amenities and fresh Hawaiian cuisine served up daily.
