As Mother's Day approaches this weekend, we at Smith and Berg Property Group wanted to take a moment to celebrate the incredible mothers and mother figures in our lives by sharing some of their timeless advice that continues to shape who we are — both personally and professionally. From kitchen table lessons to life-changing wisdom, our team's mothers have given us principles that guide us every day. Here are some of their words we live by:
F. Ron Smith: "Live each day as a story, with a beginning, middle, and end."
My inspiration comes from my 91-years-young mother-in-law, Barbara. Welcome each day with appreciation, live the day to the fullest and end the day with gratitude.
David Berg: "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar."
This timeless advice from my mother reminds us that kindness and positivity go much further than negativity. Whether in real estate negotiations or daily interactions, approaching situations with warmth and understanding creates better outcomes for everyone involved.
Brandon Smith: "Just be yourself."
My mom’s loud, loving spirit has always reminded me that showing up as your full, true self is the most honest way to live.
Natalie Gureveitch: "Eat what you like best should you get full."
I used to save my favorite food on my plate to eat on its own at the very end. Mom would tell me this repeatedly. Now as an adult, I try to apply this same idea to life; It's too short and too unpredictable. Enjoy it every chance you get!
Robert Morton: "Take all you want, but eat all you take."
Mom was referring to food but I've applied this wisdom in many situations. This simple kitchen table advice has become a philosophy about responsibility and mindfulness that guides both my personal commitments and how I approach my client relationships.
Courtney Welsh: “Family is everything.”
To me, family is the core of everything. And at the core of our family is my mother. I say it all the time but if I can be half the mother she has been to me, my kids are set.
Krista Masella: "Always make time for the ones you love."
My mom has taught me many lessons in life, mostly by embodying them herself. I am constantly in awe of her kindness and willingness to go the extra mile for her loved ones. She is full of life and always down for a good time....to the point where my friends will go hangout with her even if I am not around. I couldn't be more grateful to have such a fabulous example. Love you, Mom!
We hope you take time this weekend to reflect on and appreciate the special women who have shaped your life with their wisdom, love, and strength. From all of us to all of you, Happy Mother's Day.
